Welcome to Take One of May’s Secret Subject Swaps. This week, 12 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
My prompt is this: Imagine yourself with no children, where would you be and what would you be doing? If you have no children, imagine yourself with children, how do you think life would be different?
It was submitted by: http://aworkingmomswhoas.blogspot.com/
If I had no children:
Eating would be much different. I could eat grown up foods when I wanted, and no one would complain about it. Or wear it.
I would travel, and no one would be fighting in the backseat or complaining about the destination. Or wearing Wal-Mart bags on their heads.
I would be fabulously in shape, since I would be able to work out and do things like take walks, take long bike rides, and do yoga without anyone protesting.
My house would be clean.
(Though I must say my house, however messy that it is, doesn’t look like a drunken Barbie orgy took place. Oh poor Flynn Ryder-it must hurt to be passed out in that pose…)
I would sleep, perchance to dream and not be awakened by a little one at 6 am on a Saturday “Mommy you need to GET UP!” (Some people are just too perky that early…)
But I would NOT have:
Original artwork for free. Like this, um thing.
The experience of seeing the world as a child sees it.
Free comedic entertainment (I think he’s trying to read someone’s shirt while running those bases).
The truth is, although there are times when I would like to just be able to have a day away, I was a very boring person before my kids came along. I really don’t want to imagine a life without them.
This post is written for all the Moms out there. Happy Mother’s Day ladies!

Sarah, while I highly doubt you could ever be boring, I agree that kids bring a whole new level of awesome to your life. Sure, there are crazy days and days you wanna rock back and forth in the corner with your bottle of wine, but they are TOTALLY worth it. As always, LOVE the pictures!!
This was a prompt that made me really think and was rewritten a couple of times before I started adding pictures. Then it all came together! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I ❤ this!!!! Kids make life worth living and never boring!! LOL
Happy Mother's Day to you, too!!!! 😀
That’s for sure! Thank you!
You totally rocked your prompt! I looove how you used pictures, each illustrating your points so well. And I’m still laughing at the Walmart bag one :))
Happy Mother’s Day!
My kids are weird, and entertaining. Thank you, Happy Mother’s Day to you too!
This. Is. Fabulous. I LOVE IT!!!! I know you were concerned about it, but really, it is funny and poignant and just has EVERY emotion a mother feels. You knocked this one out of the ball park. Amazing.
Thank you! XOXO!
I adore this post. It reminds me of all of the wonderful things that we would miss out on if we weren’t mothers. I love the “food all over the faces” and the trashed barbie houses. That gift of foam stickers on a candy insert? Those things are priceless. Happy mother’s day to you!
Would you like one? I have plenty! (The sculpture, not the kids).
I love it! Kids give away the free things(entertainment, love, artwork). This was too cute!!!
Thank you!
Your house totally reminded me of my own in those pictures above, but I am so with you on that if this all didn’t exist, I would truly miss it, too. Happy Mother’s Day to you this weekend Sarah!! 🙂
I’d be bored. And boring! Kids are fun!
You did a great job both making me laugh and making me grateful. Happy Mother’s Day to you!
Thank you! XOXO!
Happy Mother’s Day to you.
Sometimes when the crazy is at it’s max I think what I’d be doing without them and suddenly I picture myself shuffling down the side walk in my bathrobe singing show tunes to the hoards of cats following me. Not such a pretty picture but it certainly makes me laugh.
Your pictures are excellent.
A beautiful look at that gorgeous family.
LOL Meg! I just pictured that-you’re singing songs from “Cats” too, aren’t you? Memory, all alone in the mooooonlight…” Thank you so much!
LOVE!!!! You have captured this all so well. Like you, I have a lot of things I miss about my pre-kid days, but there’s no chance in hell I’d give it up. I mean, really, what on earth would I write about?! 😉
Thanks so much for this. It’s so great to put it all into perspective sometimes. My little one has been really sick this week, and after just getting her down for a nap, this was a nice little reminder of why parenthood is the best job I’ve ever had.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, MY FRIEND!
xo
I must admit that I was really wavering on how to handle this prompt! Once I started adding pictures it all fell into place! I’m so glad I wrote something that many moms can relate to. I hope your little one is feeling better very soon!
And just think how lonely your mother would be without grandchildren!
They certainly keep things interesting. Yesterday’s, um, present was no exception.
This was just awesome. My second favorite of the swap. Loved it.

So glad you did!
I did this post. I especially like the pic of the kids wearing Walmart bags…It so seems like something Lori and I would do, hmmmm…maybe it is a good thing I don’t have kids.
crappy phone…small buttons + fat fingers = typos…That was supposed to be I dig this post grrr…
I just figured you REAAALLLY liked it. HA HA!
You can embrace your inner child!
This made me cry a little – I can relate to all the things I could do without kids, and how much less fun and joyful my life would be. And I loved seeing the photos of your kids and their quirks – Walmart bags and all!
I’m not glad I made you cry, but I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Oh, this was sweet and fun. I think you’ve got the same dining table we have – same worn varnish and even the same green ground in paint! My fave photo was the one with the bags on their heads. My kids are teenagers now and I miss those days, but at least we still have two cats that are silly enough to do things like that!
We have several old tables like that! I love the fact that the sides fold down when we need the space. 🙂
Oh my gosh I like this…poor Flynn Ryder safe only because you have photographic evidence
Flynn Ryder loves to party with the ladies, and apparently a horse.
Xo. Great post. Everything about it and the mama that wrote it.
Thank you!
You ALWAYS have the best pictures!!!!! And I doubt you could EVER be boring!
I think my husband can argue that point… 😉
If I’ve learned anything in the short amount of time I’ve been married it’s that husbands know half of what they think they know and we know twice as much as we thought we knew.
Poetry.
Without kids what would we write about? I loved your post! Once you have kids it is hard to imagine a life without them and most of us wouldn’t really want to, except for a minute or two on a bad day. Then they give us a smile and we know it’s all worth it.
http://agutandabutt.blogspot.com/
The smiles are definitely worth it! 😀
Oh friend, YOU are the reason I want to do secret subject swap. What a perfectly perfect post. I love it. I got the directions from Karen, and really want to participate, but am overwhelmed by the scheduling and stuff. LOVE LOVE LOVE this post. And happy mother’s day.
I hope you are able to participate sometime-it’s not only a good challenge as a blogger but is a lot of fun! I’m glad you loved the post!
Great post! The Barbie house party made me laugh, but I agree with you that the positives definitely outweigh everything else with kids 🙂
For sure-I’d have no entertainment!
Beautiful job with this one!! i love it! You’re right- we’d love to get away and live the “high life” but what kind of people would we be if we didn’t have the opportunity to play a significant role in the development of a little person? They may be tough, but we love ’em. Great job!

(from The Pursuit of Normal;)
Thank you!
Ah Sarah, you are an evil genius. You had me all nostalgic for the childless life, and then bam! you had to go and remind me why I love being a mom. And wish I could have a few more. And the Walmart bag pic is my fave 🙂
Good, then I was able to execute my evil plan. BWAH HA HA! 😉
sniffles, While I could do some fun stuff without my son, I don’t EVER want to imagine a life without him.
That was how I felt when I received the prompt-it took me awhile to get it how I wanted it, thank goodness!

You are the awesomest mom, and blogger ever. I totally agree, life is not what I imagined being a mom would be, but I wouldn’t change a thing! Happy Mothers Day!
Thank you, same to you!
I like to think my house would be cleaner and my ass would be smaller if I had no kids, but I was just as messy and round before kids. I would travel more and go out more, but I don’t think it would be more fun. Happy Mother’s Day to you, my friend!
Thank you! 😀
Love love love!! Happy Mother’s Day 🙂 (I just found your blog and I love it already! Can’t wait to go back and read your archived posts!)
Yay! I’m so happy you like it! And I’m enjoying your blog as well-I checked it out after you did such a wonderful guest post on Kristi’s website. 😀
This is a great post, and the t-shirt reading runner made me laugh. Great pics, and Happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you!
I want to do a subject swap! HOW FUN! This post is epic. I laughed out loud at the picture of your daughter face down on the yoga mat, because it reminds me of how when I try and do yoga at home Grace comes over and is all up on my mat. I’ve tried to convince her to stand on the carpet next to me, but apparently that isn’t as much as somersaulting into my downward dog exposed nether-regions.
Lana-I’ll send you info on how to do a swap. It’s not hard, and she still needs people for next month. 🙂

This was so true and beautifully written! Happy Mother’s Day to you!
Thank you!
You humorously and delicately touched on a thought we have all had as mothers at one point. Well done. Also, drunken Barbie orgy….awesome.
I think they do some pretty wild stuff when no one is around to see…
Great post Sarah! I love the pictures! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
I did! Thank you!
Aw! Totally adorable! And I know what ya mean. It’s fun to daydream, but at the end of the day, who’d take ’em? 🙂
Today, probably no one…
I agree that life would be so much more boring without kids!! I mean, a Walmart head bagger and a drunked Barbie orgy to look at every other day! What more can one ask for?!
HA HA! That’s right!
It is good do slow down and reflect on the pros and cons. Without a boy pretending to put out a fire in a bathroom with his personal hose, I would not be able to split my side with laughter at the memory of it.
You really must take the good with the bad right… it’s a balancing ast for sure.
Thanks for being a Hooker again..
I’m a hooker every Wednesday thanks to you! 😉

They certainly have their merits!
