Liebster Love

the-liebster-award-1_zps8401af7f

Liebster is a german word, it means sweetheart, darling, beloved.  Awwww…  And I must be beloved, because I just got this award again.  The Insomniac’s Dream nominated me for the Liebster.  Have you visited her blog?  She is REAL.  She is a writer who also happens to blog.  Her writing is so amazing that you can picture yourself in whatever she is describing!  Please visit her blog when you get the chance.

What is the Liebster Award? Here are the Rules!:

This award is given to new or up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers.  The award is then passed along to other bloggers in the same category to help spread the word and support one another.  I actually have way more than 200 followers, but that’s ok!  This is my 4th time receiving this award.

1. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.
2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you, then create 11 new questions for the bloggers you pass the award to.
3. Choose 11 new bloggers (with less than 200 followers) to pass the award to and link them in your post.
4. Go back to their page and tell them about the award.
5. No tag backs.

I feel like Sally Field because you really like me! Now I'm going to go watch "Smokey and the Bandit".

I feel like Sally Field because you really like me! Now I’m going to go watch “Smokey and the Bandit”.

Here’s my problem with these rules-I really don’t know anyone who has less than 200 followers that I haven’t already awarded this to.  I tagged all of the ones I follow in my last award acceptance post, which was quite recently.  I haven’t really started following any new blogs since then.  I don’t want to seem ungrateful-so I’ll do the part that I can!

11 Random Facts
The first time I received the Liebster Award, I thought it said Lobster.  Appropriate to fact #3.
I found out I have had a WordPress account for three years.  I did not know this.
I am from Maine but live in Iowa.
I started this blog as an anonymous person, now I really don’t care who knows it’s me.
I starting reading Heinlein in 5th grade.
My son was almost named Jareth, yes from Labrynth.  I got cold feet at the last minute because I didn’t want people to call him Jerry.
I did not know my daughter’s name until my husband told me what is was (he said it was his turn to choose the name).
The day I turned 21 the town I lived in banned people younger than 21 in bars.  I had been hanging out at the place I eventually met my husband since I was 18.
I have never actually been to band camp.
I saw Star Trek:  Insurrection on opening night.  The other people in the theater included the Iowa State University Marching Band, we know this because they yelled it when  they walked in.  I was also one of the only females in the theater.

That's weird, man.

That’s weird, man.

11 Questions for Me

1.  Are you a cat or a dog person?
Meow.  Cat!  My dog is sweet, but I will always be a cat person.

2.  What is your drink of choice?
Non alcoholic-Diet Sunkist Lemonade and Coca-cola.  Alcoholic-Sutter Home White Zinfandel or if I’m feeling really rich, Relax Riesling!

3.  What is your favorite Holiday?
Halloween.  It’s so much fun to dress up.  I admit it’s not as fun now that I’m an adult married to a Halloween hater.  At least I can live vicariously through my children.

4.  If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
Career choice.  I’m hoping that I will get a second chance someday.

5.  What do you waste the most time on?
Worrying.  I have such bad anxiety right now that I have muscle problems.

6.  Are you consistent in house cleaning?
Noooooooooooooooooooo!

7.  Would you give up love for all the money in the world?  Or would you rather be dirt ass poor to experience the love of a lifetime?
Dirt ass poor. I have been married for thirteen years but I am still a romantic at heart.

8.  What is your worst bad habit?
Hmmmmm… this is a toughie.  I would say chewing my lip?

9.  What is your guilty pleasure?
My weekend glass of wine.

10.  Do you have a favorite author?
Not really.  I must admit that I haven’t read a book since I’ve had kids.

11.  Are you a writer who blogs, or a blogger who writes?
A writer who blogs.  My story is yet to be written, though.

So there you have it.  Thank you for the award!  I will always cherish it.

Since these blogs all have a good following but don’t really fit the criteria for the Liebster, let me just sing the praises of them again for the nth time:  Ninja Mom, Divine Secrets of a Domestic Diva, Menopausal Mother, Funny is Family, Motherhood Is An Art, Atlantamomofthree, momtimes4, Baking in a Tornado, Whencrazymeetsexhaustion, Something Clever 2.0, DeBie Hive, The Tao of Poop, Go Cheap or Go Home, Mom’s World, Miss Banana Pants, the Bearded Iris, Marj Hatzell is the Domestic Goddess, Lady or Not Here I Come, Kissing the Frog, The Mommy Ref, Don’t Chew on the Dinner Table, Can I Get Another Bottle Of Whine, Cloudy with a Chance of Wine, Diapers or Wine, My Brain on Kids, and a few more that I have probably forgotten to mention.  Most of these are also competing in the Circle of Moms Top 25 Funny Moms contest!  Don’t forget to vote!  😀  I love this GIF, so I’m going to use a lot this month-

This is how I feel about getting awards from my blogging friends.

The Flake Award: The Please Don’t Hate Me Because I Forgot About My Award Post

Not an award that I'd hand out to just anybody, you know!

Not an award that I’d hand out to just anybody, you know!

I know I’ve received some awards here recently.  I know there were a couple awhile back that I spaced off and forgot about.  I’m not a conceited person who thinks she is all that and, well, you know.  I just can’t find my brain.  Have you seen it?

Yes I am a flake.  I’m going to try REALLY hard here to try to make it all right.  I’m going to invent my own award called “The Flake Award”.  If you receive it you are one of the most awesome folks out there.  You don’t have to DO A THING after having received it, other than just say thank you.  Most of the people I run with are moms.  We have a lot on our plate.  Some of us have more like a serving platter than a plate.

So as I peruse my brain trying to think up the specifics of the flake award, mainly what it would look like, here are some of the other awards that I have been summoned to receive.

One more thing before you read on-I know some people are all-OMG these awards are all stupid and blah blah blah.  It’s hard to know just who ya are.  You don’t have to be obligated to do a DARN THING if you don’t want to.  Just say thanks!  ;-D

The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

momtimesfour nominated me for this award.  She’s right, I have followed her blog from the first week she was on here.  I just happened to see it and thought it was so neat.  What’s the best thing about her blog?  Besides the fact that it is funny and true, it’s the fact that I can read it and not have to worry about little faces looking at the screen.  It is very family friendly!  I highly recommend it if you haven’t checked it out-it’s a fun blog!

Here are the rules for this award:

  1. Link back to the person who nominated you.
  2. Post the award image on your page.
  3. List 7 random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate other blogs for the award.

I got nominated for more than one award this week, so I am attempting to combine everything into one nice post.  The next one requires you list 11 facts-therefore I think that pretty much covers the 7, don’t you?

Nominees for this award.  I think since there were supposed to be 7 facts there should be 7 nominees.  This time I’m branching out and away from WordPress!

Baking in a Tornado-I saw people talking about this blog, so one day I went and checked it out for myself.  She was so positive, and talk about some wonderful recipes!  She’s going places people, check her out!
Funny is Family-I like this blog.  I get her.  I think she and I could have a lot of fun hanging out in real life.
Menopausal Mother-Because she is the bomb!  She is so freaking hilarious, supportive of her fellow bloggers and just so darn nice, you can’t help but not love her!
Go Cheap or Go Home-I’m cheap, she’s cheaper.  No, that’s a compliment!  And she’s a sweetie, too.
Something Clever 2.0-She’s original, and she’s not afraid to let you know it!  I like this chick, I feel like I’m running with the cool crowd knowing her.
Miss Banana Pants-Funny and heartwarming, not to mention very entertaining.
DeBie Hive-She not only looks like WonderWoman, to me she is.  There is nothing that this lady can’t do, or write about.

the-liebster-award-1_zps8401af7f

The Liebster Award

Darla over at Mom’s World and I have been great cheerleaders for each other.  She’s so sweet, always being so encouraging to me even in times when I felt like yak snot not worthy of a kleenex.  She nominated me for this award.  I’ve received the Liebster before-it’s an award for bloggers who have 200 or less followers.  I don’t know now if I can actually accept it since I have more than that.  But I thought maybe I could recognize some of the other folks who aren’t there yet this way.

Here’s the kicker-I remember being nominated for it yet another time a while back and couldn’t remember who nominated me and when this person nominated me.  After doing some careful research, I found that it was  Persuaded2Go who awarded this one to me BACK IN NOVEMBER!  And I swore up and down I would have to think about it a bit before I did anything with it.  I apologize to you, my friend, for not following up on this sooner.  I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me!

This award is given to new or up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers.  The award is then passed along to other bloggers in the same category to help spread the word and support each other.

1.  Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.
2.  Answer the questions the tagger has set for you, then create 11 new questions for the bloggers you pass the award to.
3.  Choose 11 new bloggers (or with less than 200 followers) to pass the award to and link them in your post.
4.  Go to their page and tell them about the award.
5.  No tag backs.

11 random facts about Moi (that I haven’t stated previously):

My favorite color is purple.
I love everything about yoga but I don’t really have the attention span for it.
My husband proposed to me on a playground.
I have always wanted to learn to play the cello.
I used to be a vegan.
I am allergic to air.  Not not really, but sometimes it seems like it!
I listen to most kinds of music-what genre I’m listening to depends upon my mood.
I have not read an entire book since I had my children.
I’m very superstitious about the number 13.  When my blog had 13 followers I had to beg people I knew to follow my blog so I could get away from that number.
This list goes to 11.  Sorry, I had to put the This is Spinal Tap reference in there…

Questions I had to answer:

1.  Are you brand-loyal to any product?
Neutrogena, because I have skin problems.  I use their sesame body lotion, body oil, body butter, body wash, makeup (except for mascara-because they don’t make brown and I can’t wear black without looking weird), and night cream.  I don’t use a ton of other products-other than a lavender spray.  I used to be brand loyal to Burts Bees, but I’ve had reactions to a lot of their products!  Which brand do I wish I could afford to be loyal to?  ORIGINS!  But alas, I cannot.  I use their toner, and when I run out I will cry.

2.  Do you have a story behind your kid(s) name(s)?
My son is named Ezra.  There used to be a motocross rider named Ezra Lusk.  I just thought the name was cool.
My daughter is named Brynn.  I still don’t know where my husband pulled that one out of but I love it.  It seems that anytime there is an evil or bizarre person in a show or movie the name is Brynn.  Think Bridesmaids, Being Human, yeah you get the picture!

3.  What is your favorite board game?
Easy-Scrabble.  No I don’t play Words With Friends.  Just because you like Scrabble doesn’t mean you play the other one…

4.  Have you ever been to Disneyland/Disneyworld?
I used to live near Orlando.  I have been to Disneyworld five times and Epcot twice.  I miss it.

5.  What is your favorite movie?
This is a seriously bad question to ask me because I have many favorites:  Despicable Me, Back to the Future, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Avengers, Star Trek (2009), Sixteen Candles, Better Off Dead, Real Genius, While You Were Sleeping, Kindergarten Cop, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  Come on, you asked.

6.  What did you want to be when you grew up?
I don’t know.  I just want to be successful at something.

7.  What is one of your favorite childhood memories?
A family trip to New York City when I was in elementary school.

8.  What city do you live in and do you like it?
I am not at liberty to divulge where I live.  I’m in the Midwest.  Do I like it?  There are aspects of it that I like-that the nearest city is not far.  That my children can attend a small school.  That it feels safe.  That there is a church that we can go to and be a part of.  What I don’t like is the fact that it is a small town.  I often feel judged and looked down upon.  I also feel like we don’t fit in because we are not from the area.

9.  How long have you been blogging and why?
I have been blogging since June 2012.  Not very long.  I started blogging as a way to vent as well as share stories.

10. Do you have someone you idolize or look up to?
Ellen Degeneres.  She’s funny, she never gives up, she reaches out to so many people all the time and she never stops giving.  She is definitely one of my inspirations.  I hope to be able to meet her someday.

11. What is your favorite TV show?
Currently my favorite show is The Big Bang Theory.  I also really enjoy Modern Family, The Middle, And Whitney.  And of course I watch Ellen anytime I sneak it in.  My all time favorite TV Shows are Friends, Scrubs,  and M*A*S*H.

This was hard to find blogs I read who have less than 200 followers!  I listed the ones that I’m pretty sure don’t.  If I nominated you and you do, that’s awesome!

And the nominees are…
The Status Woe-She’s new around these parts, and she is an amazing mom to a child with special needs.  Go check her out!
WhenCrazyMeetsExhaustion-I love her, she makes me laugh.
Front Range Scribbles-Photography, random musings, and well written.  Good blog-go check it out if you haven’t already.
Jasmine Kyle-The BlogShe’s got a fun blog-I like the little gifs that she posts.  And she is a great cheerleader for us other bloggers!
Little Poppits-She has kids!  She has chickens!  She is neat!

Questions for the Nominees:

1.  What inspired you to start blogging?
2.  How did you come up with the name for your blog?
3  What is your favorite blog that you like to read?
4  Tell about your dream job (maybe you’re doing it now!)
5  Is your glass half full or half empty?
6  If you could do anywhere for a week’s vacation, where would you go?
7.  What food can you absolutely not eat?
8.  Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?
9.  How much time do you spend blogging-in other words, are you one of those lucky people who can dash off a blog post in no time, or like me and take forever on one post to get it just right?
10. Do you watch TV-if so what are some of your favorite shows?
11.  Do you think I’m asking too many questions????  😀  I’m supposed to go to 11…

Blog of the Year Award 2 star thumbnail

Blog of the Year Award

I wouldn’t blame FrontRangeScribbles for being mad at me.  After all, I was told I was nominated for this award back in December!  Ah, the ADD Brain.  It never ceases to amaze me how forgetful I can be.

The rules of this were fairly simple-to nominate other blogger who you feel deserved the award, you know back in 2012, and link to them and all that jazz…  I used a very scientific formula to determine this.  It had to be a blog that I have followed for more than a month, that I read most of the posts and we actually interact and stuff….At first this was hard.  But then I realized that the time had already passed so who really cared?  So here is the list of blogs that I know that I read the most in 2012.  You know that your readership will soar now that I have handed this wonderful late award to you!

Divine Secrets of a Domestic Diva
NinjaMom Blog
The Bearded Iris
Funny is Family
Lady or Not… Here I Come
Motherhood Is An Art
Marj Hatzell is the Domestic Goddess
momtimes4
Atlantamomofthree
Adrea in Wonderland

Go ahead and take that award. You earned it!

Tired yet?  Well, I want people to know that I make a very serious attempt to read everyone’s blog at least once every couple of days.  I just want everyone to feel appreciated!

question kitty

The I Don’t Remember What The Award Was Award

And there was one other award.  I know there was…  but I can’t find it anywhere.  I am so very, very sad that I may have let someone down.  If you are reading this and thinking-SHE IS SUCH A DOUCHE AND A JERK because she didn’t do anything for that darn award I gave her, please know that I have some issues!  Please forgive me, k?

THE FLAKE AWARD:

another flakeAnd finally, this is the flake award, designed by me, and awarded to everyone who is loyal enough to read my blog on a regular basis and not run away screaming.  You know who you are. This means that if you are reading this, you are awesome. Take it, put it on your blog if you’d like.  It is kinda perty…  Give it to others who might just need a boost.  No strings attached, just love…

Awards! I Got Awards!

Oh you meant “A-Wards”, not “Wards”…

I got an award!  Then I got another award!  All right, I’ll try it.  I’m never good at these thingies.  And as I have discovered, this is a LOT of work!  Let’s see here…

The Beautiful Blogger Award

First up we have the Beautiful Blogger Award. I’m assuming it refers to the blog itself, and not the writer?  What?  Yes to both?  Ok.

I was nominated for the Beautiful Blogger award by momtimes4, a blog that I thoroughly enjoy reading every day!  She takes all the little things that happen in her house and draws cute little illustrations to go with them.  If you’re a Mom, whether you have two or six, you’ll be able to relate to these little stories and pictures!

Beautiful Blogger Award Rules:

The idea behind the Beautiful Blogger Award is to recognize some of the bloggers we follow for their hard work and inspiration.

1. Copy the Beautiful Blogger Award logo and place it in your post.

2. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.

3. Tell 7 things about yourself.

4. Nominate 7 other bloggers for their own Beautiful Blogger Award, and comment on their blogs to let them know.

7 things about myself (I hope they don’t have to be interesting!)

1.  I am the daughter of a Navy Submariner.  I grew up all over.  I was born in Maine and wound up in Iowa, where my parents are from.  We moved back here when I was 15.  I haven’t been able to get away since.  Somewhere there is a giant tractor beam holding me in here!

2.  I am a geek.  Challenge me to a game of Star Wars trivia and I will kick your behind.

3.  I have two children, ages 4 and 7.  I also have a husband and a black cat who both hate people.  And a dog that doesn’t hate people at all.

4.  If I had better fundage (is that a word?)  I would return to vegetarianism and buy all of my food at the local co-op that I’m a member of.  It is the best smelling place in the whole wide world.  I’m the one who shops there and cries because the only thing I can afford to buy there are spices and some of the bulk foods.  Someday…

5.  I don’t have a job at the moment due to no fault of my own (and it sounds like I’m not alone).  Since I already have a degree, the next step is naturally going to get my Masters in SOMETHING.  Naturally, I don’t have any clue what it would be in.  My interests lie in writing, wellness and health, nutrition, and all of that jazz.  Someday I hope to figure out what would best suit me.  And then win the lottery so I can afford to go to school.

6.  I love NASCAR.  I even got to go to a race this year.

7.  If it’s not chocolate or caffeinated, I probably don’t consume it regularly.  I’m trying to change that…

Ok, enough of that-now the best part is that I get to nominate seven other people whose blogs I thoroughly enjoy!  The only bad part of this is that I have to CHOOSE.  And I’m assuming that I can only choose WordPress blogs?  And I know how some of you feel about the awards on here (Becca at Lady Or Not, that’s why you’re not on this list or I would SOOOOO nominate you!)

Atlantamomofthree– She JUST got this award.  Now she’s getting it again, because she’s awesome.

Motherhood Is An Art-I love this blog.  One lovely Mommy to three lovely children.  Her son Bency cracks me up!

Adrea In Wonderland-This is one of the first blogs I followed on WordPress. She is just a neat person, and posts some really interesting stuff.  If you are a C.S. Lewis fan you’ll appreciate all of the Alice in Wonderland references.

My Brain on Kids-Funny Lady.  She is Adam Levine’s future girlfriend, he just doesn’t know it yet.

Cloudy, With A Chance of Wine-Funny Mom, fellow wine lover.

Highly Irritable Blog-Not only does she write the funny stuff, she writes some wonderful stories as well.

Marj Hatzell is The Domestic Goddess-She claims to give Stay-At-Home Moms a bad name.  She does anything but.

The Liebster Blog Award

This was awarded to me by Valerie over at Atlantamomofthree.  And I agree, I thought it said Lobster Award when I first saw it too.

The Liebster Blog Award is given to bloggers by bloggers. It is a way of acknowledging each other and is for blogs with 200 or less followers. This is also a great way to spread the word about smaller blogs and get them more readers and followers!  When you receive the award, you post 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions from the person who nominated you. You pass the award onto 11 other blogs (make sure you tell them you nominated them!) and ask them 11 questions. You are not allowed to nominate the blog who nominated you!

11 Random Facts about Me:

I despise crunchy vegetables, except for sweet bell peppers.  See my next fact for why that is so ironic.

I was a vegetarian for many years, and a vegan for a year while they tried to figure out why I was covered with an eczema type rash, why certain types of food made me sick, and why I was doubled over with stomach pain (nothing was ever figured out, other than the rash)

I have a famous friend, Marcus Collins of the Texas Tenors (The gorgeous blonde).  We went to college together. He is the sweetest person in the whole world, and he IS as genuine as he seems.  If you didn’t watch America’s Got Talent the season they went to the finals, you should take some time and check them out.  What they do is unique, and great stuff to listen to!  I also shook Ana Gasteyer’s hand once, but we’re not friends.

I went to school to be a music teacher-I have had to at least learn the basics for every basic band/orchestra instrument there is.  I found out that it was NOT my lot in life to be a brass player (I guess I kind of knew that already).  It sounds more like a dying cow than music…

People I hope to meet someday: Ellen Degeneres!  I am a huge fan of hers!  I’d also like to meet Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Seth McFarlane, George Lucas, Demetri Martin, and Michelle Obama.  And a lot of the bloggers I follow I’d love to meet in person for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.  Contact me if you’re interested.  *wink*

I don’t sleep.  At least not without assistance.

When I was in 4th grade, the band teacher told my mother I had no musical talent whatsoever.

I am so allergic to certain plants that my eyes swell shut if I smell them. I know one of them is a type of evergreen, but there are other mystery plants.

I wear tie-dye most days of the week.  I don’t know why.  I just like it.  I also have lots of things with mandalas and yoga-type stuff on them.

As a child, I was such a picky eater that I would only take pb&j sandwiches in my lunches.

When I had my daughter, I couldn’t walk for a long time because somehow my pelvis was out of alignment,  and still to this day I do not have full range of motion in my neck.  So you can say that she is a pain in the neck, literally.

The 11 Nominees (Please don’t be offended if you have more than 200 followers! Not everyone shows the number of followers on their blog, and I still think you deserve an award even if you have more than 200!!) :D  I tried and tried to find 11 blogs that I follow on WordPress that had less than 200 and I was wildly unsuccessful.  That says something for the blogs on here, that you all are AWESOME!  And if I nominated you and you’re not into this type of thing, just ignore this and go on with your life.  So here are the ones that I nominated:

MomTimes4-One of the bestest blogs outs there!  Illustrations of everyday family life.  Funny!  If you’re a parent you’ll find something that you can relate to here!

Front Range Scribbles-A blog that everyone can relate to because it’s about a little of everything.  Plus fantastic photos!

Sky Blue With Daisies– Check out her art.  I think she’s great!

Dancing In The Rain-Living life with chronic illness and a fabulous attitude!

ADDadultstrategies-If you’re ADD this blog is a great resource.

Bug Bytes-Another fun blog from a Mom!

Naptime WritingMoms unite!!!

The Flat Broke Blog-Show this girl some love.  She’s back on the cheese line.

11 Questions for me

~Would you rather live where they have mild winters and very hot summers, or have freezing winters and mild summers?

Freezing winters and mild summers.  I hate to be hot.  And you can always put more clothes/blankets on when you’re cold, but you can only take so much off when you’re hot!

~If you had to choose a different decade to live in for one month from 1900-1990, which would you choose? Why?

The 1960s.  I am very interested in that time period!

~Do you have children? How many?

Yes, I have two.

~Where you live are there more cars than bikes? Do you own a bike?

Cars.  I do own a bike.  I used to bike everywhere.  Another unfortunate side effect of having children.

~What is one thing you are really proud of that you’ve learned how to do as an adult? (Mine is juggling!!)

How to make good food out of a few cheap ingredients.

~What is your favorite fiction book?

The Princess Bride by William Goldman.  And I read it BEFORE I saw the movie, thank you very much!

~If you found $1000 cash on a ride at an amusement park, what would you do?

Take it to the lost and found, of course!

~What is your favorite kind of music to listen to?

Ooooo… I’m probably on a special list.  I don’t really have just one favorite.  If you were to somehow hack into my Ipod, you’d find a little of everything.

~What do you think is the best way to spend a Saturday night?

A long walk under a full moon, then watch a good movie

~Would you rather spend a week in the mountains or on a beach? Why?

In the mountains.  Quiet, many hiking opportunities, and you can’t beat that scenery!

~Do you do Pinterest? Want to share your link?

Yes I do.  And yes I will!

11 Questions for the Nominees:
